These add a fun, classy element to any whiskey sipper etc. However, we love them so much that we use them for everything now! You can fill thru the hole on top with water while the unit is closed. Easy to remove, just push on the same hole you used to fill it and pull back the edges off the ice ball. It should pop right out! Our first one was a Xmas gift from a friend & We have had many compliments! Our other friends wanted one so we ordered 2 more.Thank you! I'm sure we will order more. Good price point too! Cheers!
The large ice balls are very nice for some occasions when you really don't want ice melting and watering down the drink.The directions to fill "80% full" are not very helpful. You can't see inside the opaque mold, and it isn't clear if the 80% refers to height or to volume.I found it simplest to fill using a thin stream of water from the faucet, and then to press the top down, forming a dimple about the size of a quarter. That seems to create an air pocket about the right size to allow for expansion in the freezing process.
What a great little device -- and a great gift idea! It works exactly as described. I used a small funnel (NOTE: this doesn't come with the item) to fill it up 3/4 of the way. Several hours in the freezer and...voila! Perfectly round ice that lasts much longer than regular ice! Because of the silicon, the ice pops right out. I would definitely buy this again, and highly recommend it.
